Kuari Pass Trek UTTARAKHAND
Region :- Joshimath Duration :- 5 Days/ 4 Nights Grade :-Easy Max Altitude :- 3876 mts.
The Kuari Pass journey is frequently alluded to as the Curzon's Trail - named after the British Viceroy of India, so don't let that befuddle you. Ruler Curzon was a sharp pioneer and traveler, and strolled this path in 1905. You're probably not going to meet an excessive number of adventurers here - after Kashmir's Great Lakes journey, this is another of India's shrouded trails. Traveling in the Himalayas doesn't beat this path. Appreciate the dazzling magnificence of the Himalayas around you and don't hesitate to talk with the shepherds and explorers that cruise by.
The Kuari Pass journey is decently testing yet the picturesque abundance toward its finish makes everything so worth while - marvelous perspectives on snowcapped highest points including Trisul, Nilkanth, Changabang and Nanda Devi, nearly flaunting their best side and remunerating your endeavors!

Joshimath to Dhak Village (via car) and trek to Tali Forest Camp (11,031 ft) – 8 KMs/7 hours
After breakfast around 7:30 AM, we head to Dhak Village to start our trek. Keep a jacket handy, you may need it along the way, but if the sun is up, you can easily trek in a t-shirt and a fleece. You’ll walk through the dusty trails up to Tugashi village, which will be your first water source. It’s a charming little village, where you’ll get a glimpse of the traditional way of life of the locals. As you move further up from Tugashi village, the terrain changes and you’ll find yourself walking in and out a beautiful oak forest. The forest opens up to a clearing or a meadow every now and then. You’ll have your lunch at Gulling around 1 pm, rest up here but gear up for the final ascend to the Tali Campsite from here. It’s not a steep ascend, but for the next 4KMs, you’ll be walking uphill. Tali campsite is right in the middle of the forest, and you’ll be delighted to be there because you’ll have a team waiting with hot beverages and snacks for you.
Tali Forest Camp to Kuari Pass to Tali Forest Camp. (11,031 ft to 12,516 ft to 11,031 ft) – 12 Kms/ 7 hours
Today is going to be an epic day. It’s much easier than the previous day, as you will go up and down hills and snow slopes (in the winter months). The trek today will amaze you with the glorious views of the mountains around you, the snowfield you’ll traverse through and the feeling of being on top of the world at Kuari Top. It would take you around 4 hours to reach Kuari Top, which is the highest point on the trail, from there, Kuari Pass is just 700 meters (40 minutes) away. Today you’ll see peaks like Neelkantha, Nanda Devi, Hathi Ghoda Parvat, Dronagiri, Pangarchulla, and Chaukhamba. After spending some time at the pass, we retrace the same route to reach Tali by late afternoon.
Tali Forest Camp to Auli. (11,031 ft to 10,003 ft). Drive to Joshimath. – 10 KMs / 7 hours
If the views blew your minds away yesterday, today is going to be an even better day. 800 meters of steady climb after the camp, you’ll be out of the forest. Your first break point would be at the beautiful Tali lake. You’ll be able to get clear views of Nanda Devi from Tali lake, which is the highest mountain in India. The trail from here climbs onto a narrow path, with the mountain on one side and a steep drop on the other. Make sure you walk as a team on this path, as people scared of heights or prone to vertigo, might feel a little uncomfortable here. This narrow path continues for 1.5 KMs till you enter Gorson Bugyal. For the next 5KMs you’ll walk in a beautiful wide open meadow, and in the winter months, the snow makes the landscape absolutely stunning. You’ll find a lot of day hikers here from Auli, who come here to experience the snow. Reach Auli Ski Resort and board the vehicle for Joshimath from Auli road head. The drive from Auli to Joshimath is around an hour. Your trip ends here, and now it’s time to take a hot shower, relax and celebrate.
Depart from Joshimath
The trip ends today. Checkout of the guest house. If you opt for transportation from us then we will reach Dehradun by late evening.

Fitness For Trekking
How to get fit for Trekking?
Although walking is something most people do every day, we strongly urge you to train for your trek. You should start training several months before your trek and we’re here to help you understand and guide you how to achieve optimum fitness. You will enjoy this challenge far more if you are physically fit. Even if you walk regularly and have a good level of fitness, you will still need to train for this type of long-distance walking at higher altitudes.
1. Boosting your aerobic fitness
It strengthens your heart, reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke.
It improves circulation, breathing and endocrine functions.
It tones muscles and strengthens bones,
It makes your lungs strong
Gives it ability to process less air for more work.
It also helps the body to acclimatise better to the colder weather at the trek.
The faster you move, the better your cardiovascular workout. But try to keep an even stride and maintain a steady pace.
To walk faster...
Accelerate your arm movements.
Take smaller, quicker steps.
2. Strength Training
Focus on building strength in your legs, back, shoulders, arms, and abdominal muscles. In addition you need to add some strength and flexibility training to your workout.
Why stretching?
Flexibility is the ability of muscles and tendons to relax and stretch easily.
It determines the amount of movement your bones can make in any direction around joints such as shoulders, elbows, hips and knees.
It improves your posture and helps to prevent low back pain.
Stretching your hamstrings, quadriceps, hip flexors and low back muscles regularly, promotes relaxation in the tissues reducing the strain on your back.
On your trek, it is important that you arrive on the slopes with your muscles relaxed.
3. Staying Hydrated
Running low on fluids diminishes your endurance, contributes to fatigue, and makes you more susceptible to getting altitude illness. Focus on staying well hydrated during your training.
4. Focus on optimizing sleep
Strive to get at least eight hours of sleep a night during your training. People often have trouble sleeping at higher altitudes, and diminished sleep will make your expedition much more challenging.
5. Shoes
It is worth investing in a good pair of trekking or hiking boots, and appropriate socks. New boots must be worn in. Wear them around the house, on the way to work, etc, and then on longer trips. Once they have conformed to the shape of your feet there is less likelihood of getting blisters. Even if you’re only doing an hour around the park or streets put your rucksack and boots on, you may look silly but it’s worth it.
6. Hilly terrain
It is important to get into some hilly areas to experience walking on different surfaces, get used to the hills and of course the weather. You should wear the boots and rucksack you will take on the trek. You may not stick to the training guide exactly but you need to keep it in mind and to do regular exercise every week according to the guide. The fitter you are, the chances are better that you will extract the most from a trip.
Frequently Asked Questions about Gaumukh Trek (FAQs)
Is a guide necessary for Gaumukh Trek?
The most ideal situation would be to go with a trek guide. The difficulty of the Phulara Ridge trek is moderate and can be done without intense prior preparation.
But here are the challenges:-
If you are a new trekker you are unfamiliar with the conditions there and will find it difficult to go ahead.
If you are not from around that area you are more likely to lose trail.
Finding the right spot and finding shelter becomes difficult.
So things you need to carry if you will be trekking alone here,
Battery banks.
Snack bars
Tracking devices. These are very important in a new place as they help you keep a track of your path and you are aware about your location.
A SOS signalling device.
So these are some of the important things you will need to carry when going without a trek guide.
But if you are a beginner it is ideal to go with a guide.
