Q1. What is the best time to visit Leh–Ladakh?
👉 The best time is May to September, when roads from Manali & Srinagar are open and the weather is pleasant. In winter (Nov–Feb), Leh is accessible only by air, but extreme cold makes it suitable only for experienced travelers.
Q2. How difficult is the trip?
👉 It’s a moderate adventure trip. Roads are long and at high altitude (10,000–18,000 ft). Acclimatization days are important to avoid AMS (Altitude Mountain Sickness).
Q3. Do I need a permit for Leh–Ladakh?
👉 Yes. For Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake & Tso Moriri, Indian nationals need an Inner Line Permit (ILP), which can be arranged in Leh. Foreign nationals require a Protected Area Permit (PAP).
Q4. Is mobile network available in Ladakh?
👉 Connectivity is limited. BSNL postpaid works best, while Airtel & Jio postpaid have partial coverage around Leh, Nubra & Pangong. Prepaid SIMs usually don’t work.
Q5. What kind of accommodation is available?
👉 Ladakh offers hotels, guesthouses, homestays, and camps. In Leh, hotels are well-equipped, while in remote areas like Pangong & Nubra, expect basic camps or homestays.
Q6. Are ATMs and fuel available in Ladakh?
👉 ATMs are available only in Leh town, but not always reliable. Carry sufficient cash. For fuel, Leh has petrol pumps; a few pumps are in Nubra, but availability is uncertain—keep extra fuel if self-driving.
Q7. Is it safe for solo or women travelers?
👉 Yes. Ladakh is considered very safe with friendly locals. Traveling in groups or with a tour operator is recommended for better logistics and safety.
Q8. What food options are available?
👉 In Leh, you’ll find Indian, Tibetan, and Continental options. In remote villages and camps, expect simple meals like dal, rice, chapati, and vegetables. Carry snacks for the road.
Q9. How do I prepare for high altitude?
👉 Spend at least 1–2 days in Leh to acclimatize before visiting Nubra or Pangong. Stay hydrated, avoid smoking/alcohol, and carry medicines for AMS if prescribed by a doctor.
Q10. Can I see snow in Ladakh?
👉 Yes. Snow can be seen at high passes (Khardung La, Chang La, Baralacha La, Tanglang La) even in summer. In winter months (Nov–Feb), the region is covered in heavy snow.
